PublishingPageContent

There has never been a better time to start a career in early childhood as there is a high demand for qualified early childhood teachers.

If you are a registered primary school teacher, you may be eligible to fast track your career and complete a diploma-level early childhood education and care qualification.

You can start working as an early childhood teacher as soon as you start studying your diploma. Please be aware that you will need to have completed your diploma before the end of 2021 to continue to be recognised as an equivalent early childhood teacher from 2022. Read more about qualification requirements.

Depending on your skills and knowledge, you can successfully complete your qualification within 6 to 12 months (full time).

Am I eligible?

You are eligible for the early childhood teacher bridging program if you hold:

  • a primary teaching qualification that includes a focus on children aged 3–8 or 5–12 years old
  • teacher registration in Australia (or accreditation in New South Wales).

Once qualified, you will be recognised as an equivalent early childhood teacher and hold an approved early childhood teacher qualification under the National Quality Framework.

Cost of the bridging program

The Queensland Government provides subsidies to reduce the cost of the program under the Higher Level Skills program. The eligibility criteria is adapted for the program to enable qualified primary teachers to participate.

These subsidies are provided directly to registered training organisations (RTOs) and are incorporated into their program delivery fees. RTOs set their own fees and charges so costs will differ across training organisations.

RTOs registered to offer the program include:

For further information on fees or how to enrol in a diploma level qualification, contact the RTOs directly.

Information for registered training organisations

No additional RTOs are required for delivery of the program at this time.
