The eKindy program is a comprehensive ‘at home’ kindergarten program for children in the year before Prep.
Now in its 10th year, eKindy continues to ensure children in remote parts of the state, and those who can’t access a centre-based program due to travel, an itinerant lifestyle or medical reasons, have a great start to their early learning.
The program, delivered through Brisbane School of Distance Education, is supported by a qualified early childhood teacher and will cover 15 hours of kindergarten for 40 weeks a year (during school terms only). The program aligns with the
Early Years Learning Framework and the
Queensland kindergarten learning guideline.
The eKindy teacher delivers up to one hour of the program per week, with the remainder of the program delivered by the child's parent/carer. The program is flexible and can be organised to meet the needs of the family and child.
To be eligible for eKindy, a child must meet one of three eligibility categories – distance to an early childhood education and care service, medical condition, or travelling/itinerant lifestyle.

In selected areas, children registered for eKindy can also join an eKindy pod to learn with their peers and develop social skills before they start school.
