Children in selected remote communities can attend kindergarten at their local state schools as part of the Remote Kindergarten Program.

The selected state schools offer the kindergarten program as part of a composite class delivered by their existing classroom teacher with support from a teacher aide.

Following the successful pilot of the program beginning in 2016, the program is expanding in 2019 and 2020. By 2020, an additional 30 schools will take part in the program.

Schools participating in the program meet eligibility criteria, including being at least 50km by the most direct route by road from an approved kindergarten service. Schools are provided with additional funding to support the delivery of the kindergarten program.
