Policy and procedure guidelines

PublishingPageContent

Using these guidelines will help you develop effective and service-specific policies and procedures and ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of children.

Each guideline includes a logical step-by-step breakdown of what services need to cover in each policy and procedure.

Policies and procedures should outline the processes all staff employed by a service will follow and guide them to meet their legislative requirements. They should also help to inform families about how the service operates.

The guidelines are not an exact format or template. They have been designed to help you develop policies and procedures that address the unique context, user group and operating model of your individual service.

The guidelines have been developed in partnership with the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA):

Children's health and safety

Staffing arrangements

  • Staffing, including:
    • code of conduct
    • determining the responsible person present at the service
    • participation of volunteers and students on practicum placements.

Relationships with children

Governance and leadership

Additional guidelines for family day care services
