Remember Allen the alien? A friendly creature from outer space, visiting Earth and new to the classroom. He wants to fit in and make friends but discovers it’s not always that easy.

The Allen Adventure app has been upgraded and is now available on all mobile devices, including phones.

With the Allen Adventure app, children from ages 3 to 8 help Allen interact with other children, learn to share and understand feelings.

Bullying prevention can start in the early childhood years with the helpful guidance of parents, carers and educators.

The fun, interactive app explores social and emotional skills which are critical when making friends, getting along with others and dealing with difficult situations. It helps develop emotional literacy, positive social behaviours and respectful relationships.

Children are watching and experiencing life online from a very early age. It is never too early to talk about online safety. The Allen learns about technology poster (PDF, 267KB) introduces 5 rules about sharing devices, appropriate device usage and safe online behaviour.

Beaucare Services family day care educator Shaarndra Mason said the Allen Adventure app has been a hit with the children in her care.

'The children (aged 3 and 4) really love it. They liked the way it interacted with them because it gave them independence,' she said.

'The first time trying the app, I helped each of them to navigate the activities but after that, they were happy to play with the app without my help.'

Shaarndra said the Allen Adventure app was a great resource for educating children about the importance of understanding emotions.

'It’s important for children to understand about feelings at an early age and because Allen is a cool cartoon character, the app is informative, engaging and fun,' she said.

'If you’re looking for a tool to help children learn about understanding their emotions, then the Allen Adventure app is a great place to start.'

Download the app for free from the App Store or Google Play and visit Bullying. No Way! for supporting resources.
