Do families at your service have younger children?

Parents and carers looking for additional support and a nurturing atmosphere in the first few years of their child’s life can benefit from playgroups across Queensland.

Thanks to the continuation of Play Stars, families with a child under 1 can do this for free.

For the next 3 years, Queensland families with children under the age of 12 months will have access to a free year of Playgroup Queensland membership.

Playgroups aim to celebrate parents, carers and children together and provide an opportunity to share ideas and experiences of parenting, while helping children learn valuable social skills with their parents by their side.

Activities like these build foundations for strong social, emotional and physical development, as babies and young children take their first steps into their lifelong learning journey.

Play Stars also provides families with access to free online resources to support baby play activities, playgroup activities and health and nutrition information.

This was particularly helpful for members throughout 2020, when Playgroup Queensland offered at home Playgroup activities to minimise the bite of isolation for parents, carers and children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A joint initiative between the Department of Education and Playgroup Queensland, Play Stars provides families with additional opportunities to support their children’s learning and development in those crucial early years.

Since launching in 2016, over 10,000 families have joined the Play Stars fold.

For more information and to find your local playgroup, please visit the Playgroup Queensland website.
