For our young children, kindy gives kids a chance to explore, play and learn. Kindy is a place where children learn through play-based experiences and interactions that support their early learning, wellbeing and development before they start school. Kindy is where children explore diverse environments and cultures, with a focus on First Nations' perspectives.
Kindy is free for eligible-aged children who attend a Queensland Government approved program offering Free Kindy.
Families will benefit from Free Kindy regardless of whether they attend a sessional kindergarten or kindergarten in long day care. Kindy is 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year and is free.
Families should speak to their local kindergarten program provider regarding the start date of their child's kindergarten program.
Kindergarten services in Queensland are funded to create inclusive and quality early learning programs for all children.
