Countdown to free kindy for Queensland families

​Free kindy

Kindy is free for every eligible-aged child in Queensland from January 2024. Kindy is for children aged at least 4 years by 30 June in the year before Prep.

Kindy is a government-approved kindergarten program delivered 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year by a qualified early childhood teacher.

Families will benefit from free kindy at both sessional kindergartens or long day care services.​

The department's free kindy campaign is now live across television, cinema, outdoor advertising, social media, radio and digital platforms.

The campaign reminds families that children turning 4 before 30 June 2024, are ready for kindy and to start making friends, play and learn.

Set up as a mock press conference, the campaign is bright and fun and features kindy-age children sharing the exciting free kindergarten announcement.

Not only will the campaign spark an interest in kindy, families can find their local kindy by using the free kindy finder to search online and enrol directly at their local kindy.
