Technology is a part of our daily lives and the lives of our children. Learning how to use technology is important for your child’s ongoing learning.
The technology of the future will be created and used by our children and as children explore using technology through playing, listening and observing, they learn how these can be used in their everyday lives.
Getting started with computers
Support your child to use the computer by teaching them to use the keyboard and mouse. Show them what you are doing to use the computer, for example, explain when you use the mouse to move the cursor or click something on the screen.
You can encourage your child to learn how to use the computer by watching digital stories, using the Paint program to create drawings and artworks, playing games that involve clicking on the image or creating a folder with your child’s favourite websites so they can access them.
Some basic computer skills you can teach your child include how to turn the computer on and off, using the mouse to click, double click and drag, typing, accessing drop-down menus and clicking on symbols.
