The Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (Regulatory Authority), is responsible for assessing and rating the quality of Queensland early childhood education and care services against the National Quality Standard (NQS), which sets a national benchmark for services under the National Quality Framework.

Under the assessment and rating process, services are assessed against seven quality areas by authorised officers from the Regulatory Authority and provided a rating for each, as well as an overall rating.

The focus of the process is to ensure continuous quality improvement of services. Regardless of their rating, all service providers are required to, regularly:

  • evaluate their service's operations
  • explore ways improvements can be made
  • update their Quality Improvement Plan (at least annually)
  • demonstrate how quality outcomes will be achieved and/or maintained.
