During the eScan, the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority (Regulatory Authority) collaboratively explores emerging issues, identifies root causes and risk factors, and develops solutions with a range of stakeholders.

This provides the evidence base for the Regulatory Authority's biennial regulatory priorities.

There are 4 priorities for the 2023–25 financial years that the Regulatory Authority will pay particular attention to and expects to see providers comply with their responsibilities.

Read more about each regulatory priority and access the video resources:

  • Health and hygiene—Approved providers must ensure that educators serve food safely, take steps to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and support children’s individual medical needs.
  • Incident prevention and management—Approved providers are tasked with ensuring the safety, health, and wellbeing of children in their care. They are required to take every reasonable precaution to protect children from potential harm and hazards that could cause injury.
  • Positive relationships with children—Educators must interact positively with all children at all times. Approved providers must support educators to develop respectful and positive relationships with children.
  • Support for educational leadership—Educational leaders must be supported to effectively guide educators to deliver high-quality programs and curricula, critically reflect on practice, and identify opportunities to continuously improve.
