All Queensland children have access to kindy wherever they live. Kindergarten programs are offered in long day care services and sessional kindergarten services. The Queensland Government also delivers kindergarten programs in a range of other delivery options where the market is not able to deliver a kindergarten program. Options include eKindy, State Delivered Kindergarten and Hospital kindy.

Kindergarten services are generally not-for-profit organisations administered by a volunteer parent management committee or operated by not-for-profit organisations with parent advisory committees.
They usually operate during school hours each school term, and the learning program is delivered by a qualified early childhood teacher.
