Now in its 10th year, eKindy continues to ensure children in remote parts of the state, and those who can’t access a centre-based program due to travel, an itinerant lifestyle or medical reasons, have a great start to their early learning.
The program, delivered through Brisbane School of Distance Education, is supported by a qualified early childhood teacher and will cover 15 hours of kindergarten for 40 weeks a year (during school terms only). The program aligns with the
Early Years Learning Framework and the
Queensland kindergarten learning guideline.
The eKindy teacher delivers up to 1 hour of the program per week, with the remainder of the program delivered by the child's parent/carer. The program is flexible and can be organised to meet the needs of the family and child.
To be eligible for eKindy, a child must meet 1 of 3 eligibility categories – distance to an early childhood education and care service, medical condition or travelling/itinerant lifestyle.
