North Brisbane's Chipo Makusha loves her job.

She is one of the many outside school hours care (OSHC) educators across Queensland dedicating their time to building meaningful relationships with children, families and school staff.
'I chose a career in early childhood education and care because I care about the wellbeing of children and I would love to see them grow and become the person they aspire to be,' Chipo said.
Chipo said her mother's passion for early childhood education in long day care influenced her decision to join the profession.
'I value children's wellbeing and I believe that children should be happy and live fulfilled lives from a young age,' she said.
'I see the work that my mum puts in working with children and I want to one day make an impact on children's lives the way my mum has.'
Starting her career in education as a primary school mentor in high school, Chipo also works as a junior sport coach, inspiring children aged 2–7 years old to have a lifelong love of sport.
Chipo said she could see herself having a long-term career in the early childhood education and care (ECEC) space.
Her advice to others considering a career in early childhood was simply to have fun and be proud of your work.
'Enjoy every moment when working with children. Know you are making an impact in their life and it is rewarding.'
Wednesday 26 July marks
National Out of School Hours Care Educators Day. Coordinated by The National Out of School Hours Services Alliance (NOSHSA), the annual day celebrates and recognises the important role OSHC educators play in the lives of children. This year's theme is OSHC Educators: At the heart of the community.
From all walks of life, our OSHC educators take great care and consideration in providing a safe and positive environment for school students.
If you know someone interested in working at an OSHC service, be sure to share the latest information on early childhood careers.
Staring from 17 July this year, the Certificate III in Outside School Hours Care is available through Fee-Free TAFE across campuses state-wide. The entry level qualification provides the skills to start a career in OSHC. For more information, visit the
TAFE Queensland website.
