Adult smilingBeverly, a teacher aide at Pormpuraaw SS State Delivered Kindergarten, is one of the many students benefiting from initiatives such as the rural and remote residential program. This week-long intensive program in Cairns supports educators from regional, rural and remote communities as they work towards completing an approved early childhood qualification.

'I like studying and then taking new skills back to my community and when I go on Country. Once I graduate, I could work in any early childhood service across Australia which is amazing,' Beverly said.

Even before graduating, Beverly was implementing skills and knowledge gained through the course and her interaction with other educators.

'Study has made me focus more on the children and what they need. I am more aware of my actions and what I say and do. I now understand more how things like my mood and tone of voice can impact on children’s behaviour,' she said.

Looking ahead, Beverly is already sure she wants to enrol in a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care after graduating with her Certificate III.
