For our young children, kindy gives kids a chance to explore, play and learn. Kindy is a place where children learn through play-based experiences and interactions that support their wellbeing and development before they start school. Kindy is where children explore diverse environments and cultures, with a focus on First Nations' perspectives.
Kindy is free for eligible-aged children who attend a Queensland Government approved Free Kindy program.
Families will benefit from Free Kindy regardless of whether they attend a sessional kindergarten or kindergarten in long day care. Free Kindy is 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year.
Families should speak to their local kindergarten program provider regarding the start date of their child's kindergarten program.
Kindergarten services in Queensland are funded to create inclusive and quality early learning programs for all children.
