Statement of shared commitment in action

 

Since the release of the Statement of Shared Commitment for the sector, services across Queensland are sharing their support through social media and engagement activities with their communities.

We've loved seeing how the Statement of Shared Commitment is being embraced.

As a sector, this shared commitment means we're all on the same page—ready, willing and able to ensure every interaction counts in early childhood.

Living Faith Lutheran Kindergarten has shared with us how they've used resources as a part of their ongoing journey to embrace and promote a child-safe culture.

Here's what they've done so far:

• unpacked the Statement of Shared Commitment at a staff meeting and used the associated templates to write their own commitment and promise to families and children
• displayed the poster on their service's front door
• used the National Model Code (PDF, 95KB) to reflect and assess on their current practice, which resulted in a risk assessment that detailed how, why and when staff would use electronic devices
• completed the online National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) protective behaviours training and shared the learnings with others
• re-trained or inducted all staff in the centre's policies and procedures relating to protecting and safeguarding children
• completed the child protection unit of competency—CHCPRT025—Identify and report children and young people at risk.

Well done, Living Faith Lutheran Kindergarten for using a multi-layered approach aimed at protecting children and ensuring every interaction counts.
