Regulatory policy and framework

The regulating for quality (R4Q) policy (PDF, 325KB) supports the department in its regulatory role which is undertaken in line with the objectives of the National Quality Framework and the regulating for quality risk-based framework.

The framework clarifies how the department regulates to reduce risk to children's safety, drive voluntary service compliance and promote continuous quality improvement.

Under R4Q, the department is using modern risk-based regulatory approaches to develop tailored and evidence-based solutions to identified risks in the sector.

Regulatory procedures

Regulatory procedures outline the department's approach to proactively assessing and rating, and monitoring and assessing compliance of early childhood services.

Regulatory officers must follow these procedures:

Targeting Quality Program

The Regulatory Authority has partnered with the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) to deliver the Targeting Quality Program.
