Every community in Queensland is unique—the children and families have different strengths and needs, and the services available can vary greatly. That’s why the Queensland Government is supporting communities to develop local solutions for local priorities to help give all children a great start.
Through the Connect 4 Children strategy, communities in Queensland are developing unique plans to help improve the wellbeing of children prior to school (from birth to 5 years old). Each Birth to five plan is created locally by the people who are invested in, and care deeply about, the future of that community and its children.
The department’s Partnerships Facilitators (Early Years) are working together with communities to identify priorities for children prior to school, and help make evidence-based decisions to achieve their goals.
Partnerships Facilitators (Early Years) are also supporting early learning priorities, including improving access to
playgroup and
kindergarten, and
supporting successful transitions to school.
By creating local Birth to five plans, individual communities are forming important partnerships that are focused on innovation and alignment of program and service delivery. Together we can give more children a great start.
Four strategic platforms
There are
4 strategic platforms underpinning the strategy:
- Places—locations focused on early years priorities across Queensland
- Precision—agreed priorities and evidence-based next steps for a community that are captured in a unique Birth to five plan
- Partnerships—local community and services working together to improve the wellbeing of children
- Pathways—enhanced support for early learning priorities including playgroup, kindergarten and early years transitions.
Connect 4 Children in practice
In Far North Queensland, community members, early years service providers, schools, government agencies and other partners are identifying existing resources and upcoming priorities for their community. They are focused on maximising their existing services and resources to support children and families in Lockhart River.
